Job Summary:




Exelon’s Utility Communications (UComm) group is excited to be entering phase 3 of Exelon’s Security Controls Program.  The assets that fall into this phase include; Nokia carrier class type telecom and IP infrastructure, Cisco Data Center Class IP infrastructure, Checkpoint firewall devices, Sonet and TDM based telecommunications equipment and multiple radio technologies/system. These positions are responsible for learning the controls set forth by Exelon’s Security Department and then creating the procedure to implement those security controls on the assets owned by the UComm Department.  Inventory management, Life Cycle Management and controls tracking will also fall to this team for these assets.  This group will be responsible for configuring/reconfiguring these devices as required, provision new orders for replacement equipment when the equipment in place cannot conform to these security standards; act as lead in trouble shooting and resolving problems related to procedure adherence; and for maintaining all network documentation to reflect the state of our network.





The scope of these responsibilities encompasses three levels of equipment, software and configuration deployment:

Internal Exelon Customer Base Hardware


Network Based edge devices located at various hub sites


Core TDM, MPLS, IP and Radio Infrastructure


Possesses solid understanding of components within the tower hire into (Transport, Networking or Radio).


Administrates and Troubleshoots Security network related problems, must be familiar with Telcom procedures and troubleshooting


Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills, be customer- and detail-oriented, and possess good decision-making abilities.


Must be willing to work independently and as part of a team.


Technical degree or equivalent and six or more years’ professional experience


Strong knowledge of Tower working in (Transport, Network or Radio)


Excellent analytical, conceptual, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills


Experience with adhering to ITIL processes


Participate in rotating on-call and queue monitoring schedules in a 24/7/365 environment





What you will be doing:




-Gaining an understand of Exelon’s Security Controls.



-Developing procedures/executing these procedures on UComm owned assets.



-Configure/reconfigure devices as required.



-Replacing devices as required to meet the security standards.  By providing purchase recommendations that are highly cost/value based, that considering ongoing technical support requirements and implementation complexity.



-Effectively implementing a asset management inventory of assets within this program.  This will require trips to Exelon’s field areas including Electric and Gas Substations, other field locations where assets exist and Data Centers behind protected boundaries.



-Updating documentation and other records as it applies to these devices.



-Maintain all network documentation to reflect the state of our network.



-Identify opportunities to reduce cost.




Additional Information:




Exelon owns many types of facilities including office buildings, Nuclear Facilities Electric Substations, Gas Substations and Electric poles.  This job may require visiting some or all of these types of facilities in the course of normal job activities.  Safety Training will be provided in order for the individuals to work safely at these facilities.




Exelon Utilities personnel including UComm participate in the local utilities storm recovery activities.  This position will be required to cover storm duty periodically through the year.  Training for this role will also be provided.




- Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related discipline and typically 5 to 8 years experience in (add area(s) of technical specialty) or equivalent combination of education and work experience.


- Broad technical expertise with deep technical knowledge in at least one area (add specifics here).


- Excellent communications skills- Able to effectively communicate highly technical information in non-technical terminology (written a verbal).


- Demonstrated leadership ability
