Position may be required to work extended hours, including 24 x 7 coverage during storms or other energy delivery emergencies. Role is open to be hybrid/remote.



This position is within the IT Technical Operations area within Exelon IT leading the Enterprise Tools and Automation.  The leader of this team will support this critical area with the responsibility for managing the overall support and administration of the Technical Operations Tools portfolio.  The manager will oversee a team that has 24x7 responsibility for maintaining the health of the Tools platforms and provide consulting and support for instrumentation of Monitoring and Automation/Runbook policies.   This team would also oversee governance of the Tools baseline policies

This position has a key role in communicating across Exelon IT while providing support of Application and Infrastructure Monitoring and Automation services.   

The individual within the role should be a strategic, critical thinker who is able to:

  • Effectively communicate across all levels of IT Leadership
  • Effectively manage relationships across the organization
  • Resolve and coordinate complex issues across multiple organizations
  • Operate as an SFAM and SME for the Event Management, Tools and Automation portfolio
  • Effectively measure, plan and apply improvements.


  • Lead and manage IT staff and resources in accordance with IT Business Plan. For projects: Plan and manage scope, schedule, and budget for defined deliverables in accordance with IT project management standards. For operations/application maintenance: Plan and manage to defined service level agreements at agreed upon budgets. (25%)
  • Lead and manage IT projects and associated system integrators to deliver projects of medium to high complexity. (10%)
  • Operate utilizing standard processes as defined within the Management Model. Oversee process improvement efforts and ensure adoption of standard processes and procedures that deliver sustainable top quartile cost and performance levels. (15%)
  • Establish, maintain, and enhance relationships with business and IT partners. Communicate status to key stakeholders on a regular basis. (15%)
  • Maintain current business knowledge/acumen, including application of technology solutions to deliver business results. (10%)
  • Evaluate performance and provide coaching for IT personnel. Participate in career development and succession planning processes. Promote diversity and foster teamwork, collaboration, and a learning organization. Provide input on development and retention processes for IT employees. (10%)
  • Prepare and manage budget for area of responsibility. (5%)



  • Total Staff Managed: 5 to 20
  • Utilize understanding of customer's business needs to determine requirements and help set direction.
  • Determine and helps others learn appropriate theories, practices and principles that relate to their skill set portfolio and related sciences and disciplines.
  • Make judicious decisions in familiar and new situations and contributes to strategic decisions.
  • Represent business client's perspective with IT team
  • Dimensions: Span of control (generally 10), level of budget control, technical/business complexity, risk, criticality of assignment to business
  • Budget Management specific to area of accountability.
  • Operate independently with little or no supervision.



  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline and typically 8 to 10 years experience in (add area(s) of technical specialty) or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Appropriate technical skills with a level of understanding of both Infrastructure and Application technologies.
  • Very strong understanding of IT Management Tools and Event Management practices for Availability and Performance Monitoring
  • Understanding of DevOps and Agile Deployment processes
  • Strong knowledge of business practices and processes for ITIL
  • Knowledge of ITSM tools with preference to Service Now including Event Management/ITOM. 
  • Experience with management and maintenance of Automation/Runbook platforms
  • Experience leading and managing technical personnel. 
  • Strong judgment and excellent analytical ability. 
  • Excellent communications skills and ability to work effectively with all levels of IT and business management and with vendors. 
  • Experience managing budgets for functional area of responsibility.


  • Graduate degree.
  • ITIL Foundation certification
